The Zamfara State Government has said it would hand over staff suspected to be involved in payroll scam to the anti-corruption agencies for further investigation and recovery of the funds. The State Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Rabiu Garba Gusau who accused some staff of his Ministry for duplicating and inserting the name of the State Deputy Governor Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed into the monthly salary payment payroll in order to distract the ongoing screening exercise of workers’ salary by the Ministry across the State stated this.

The Zamfara State Government has said it would hand over staff suspected to be involved in payroll scam to the anti-corruption agencies for further investigation and recovery of the funds.
The State Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Rabiu Garba Gusau who accused some staff of his Ministry for duplicating and inserting the name of the State Deputy Governor Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed into the monthly salary payment payroll in order to distract the ongoing screening exercise of workers’ salary by the Ministry across the State stated this.
The Commissioner spoke while briefing journalists in a special press conference organised by the Ministry.
Gusau said the present administration of Governor Bello Muhammad (Matawallen Maradun), is working towards stopping out all forms of irregularities of siphoning public funds by the officials of the Ministry.
He said his stewardship in the ministry will not condone any act of criminality and breach of financial regulations that might implicate the State innocent top government personalities the likes of the number two citizen of the State.
He added that the Ministry will track and find out the culprits responsible and bring them to book.
The Commissioner also confirmed that, his Ministry, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Justice, would ensure application of possible prosecution measures to any person or group of people found wanting in the scandal and any other acts of sabotaging the present Government.
According to him, some cases that require the attention of anti graft agencies like Independent Corrupt Practices and other offence Commission (ICPC)  and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC) would be handed over to them for further investigation and possible recovery of the public funds from the affected people.
Alhaji Rabiu Garba said, so far, salaries due for a total number of 4,972 workers are not yet release by the Ministry because of some irregularities discovered during the exercise.
The commissioner also named some Institutions, Boards and Government Agencies that are involved which include Abdu Gusau Polytechnic T/Mafara, State Arabic Board, Female Education Board, Hospital Services Management Board, Establishment and Agency for Nomadic Education.
He added that, the worst and most pathetic part of the situation is what is happening at the Hospital Services Management Board where an offer of appointment is being sold at the cost of between N200,000 and N250,000.
However, the State Commissioner of Finance further explained to journalists that, it has come its knowledge that some ‘distractors’ at the Ministry are taking away some political appointees’ salaries before formalization of their appointments by the State Government.
Alhaji Rabi’u Garba Gusau called on those mistakenly or wrongly affected by the ongoing exercise to be patient and contact their respective organizations for proper guidance and documentations of their complaints for onward transmission to the Ministry of Finance for capturing and release of their December Salaries.
The Commissioner also urged the Chief Executive of all MDA’s in the State to ensure forwarding authentic and genuine data of the affected staff. He said any Chief Executive who furnish the Ministry with fake data will be held responsible for their actions.
Honourable Rabiu Garba on behalf of the Ministry and Government called on civil servants and all other stakeholders to support the exercise, as it’s meant to sanitize the service and do away with invisible workforce for the betterment of realistic workers and economic development of the State.
